CenterPoint Restores Power for Water Needed by Houston Refiners

CenterPoint Energy Inc., Houston's electric delivery company, was able to restore power today to a key pumping station that supplies water to refineries and chemical plants along the Houston Ship Channel. Houston Mayor Bill White called CenterPoint officials early Saturday to see if it could help Entergy Corp. restore power to the Trinity River pumping station on Houston's east side. Three of 12 pumps began pumping water by midday as CenterPoint was able to reroute power to a nearby substation through an emergency switch that had never been used before. Water from the river is pumped to a reservoir that supplies more than 10 cities, including Houston, and 75 industrial customers.

Offshore Facilities Starting Up

ConocoPhillips said it expects to resume output soon at its largest field in the Gulf. Pioneer Natural Resources Co., based near Dallas, said 15 percent of its Gulf production will remain shut down through the end of this week. Kerr-McGee Corp. said it expects to restore about 50 percent of pre-storm production in the Gulf, or the equivalent of about 50,000 barrels of oil a day, by the end of this week. Kerr-McGee has restored full production at its Boomvang and Nansen fields and oil output at the Gunnison field. Gas production at the Gunnison and Red Hawk fields is still shut down and output from the Neptune field is limited because of disruptions with pipeline and processing facilities owned by other companies.

Net production from the deep-water Devils Tower field, which was averaging about 5,000 barrels per day of oil and 5 mmcfd of gas prior to Hurricane Katrina, remained shut in, Pioneer added.
