|THE AMAZING RACE |

Task

You will use the popular television show as a guide to plan your own Amazing Race. Your Amazing race must visit four continents and six countries. You are to plan a series of activities that reflect both the culture and environment of each destination. In addition you will provide necessary travel tips for the general public who wish to visit the countries in your race.

Steps to Success

1) Look back at all the different destinations covered this year in travel and tourism. Use the experiences you saw online, from television and in class to choose unique and interesting filming locations for the next Amazing Race.

2) Use the race summary sheet that outlines the main locations and activities for each stage of your race. All racers start from Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Canada.

3) For each leg of the race you must complete an explanation for your choices. Meaning, you will need to explain why the roadblocks and detours you chose are unique to each destination. You should have a culture and environment based activity for each leg of the race. This was outlined in the Amazing Race example we watched in class.

ROADBLOCK: A task in which only one member of the two-person team may participate. In most cases the non-participant must wait for the participant to accomplish the goal.

DETOUR: A choice between two different ways to accomplish a goal or reach a destination. On the surface, one may seem easy but involves some sort of twist. The other way may seem difficult but it the end it may be a quicker route.

PIT STOP: The final destination for each leg of the race, at which point a team must “clock in”. The last team to arrive at the pit stop is eliminated from the race.

Aside from the race outline, information must be given to the general public who may wish to travel in the racers footsteps. The following information must be given:

4) Indicate your race on a world map. Print off the map and colour the countries visited as well as the main city which was focused on. Do not forget a title (My Most Amazing Race) north arrow and scale. For you legend, you must include the order in which the contestants will travel.

5) Provide an accommodation and a restaurant within the major city for your contestants. See cost breakdown sheet on the website. Make sure to include the local prices of the accommodations and a dinner for two and the currency conversion into Canadian dollars.

Bonus: 10 marks

The above are the requirements for all students. If you are well versed with the Amazing Race and would like to add additional elements– please do! These may include, but not limited to Fast Forwards, Speed bumps, Switchbacks, U-Turns etc. I recommend that you include only after the above requirements are completed.

PowerPoint Presentation of your Amazing Race. The presentation should highlight your destinations, your detours and roadblocks and the main attractions to your locations. Also include reasons why you picked your destination. (10-15 mins on Thursday, January 22nd or Friday, January 23rd)

6) Include a properly constructed work cited page. See the Preston High School APA formatting sheet for proper citing format. Make sure all entries are listed in alphabetical order by the AUTHOR’S LAST NAME.
