A Conversation about Books, Authors, and the Pleasures of Reading Lecture and Discussion

Nicholas Allen Director, UGA Willson Center for Humanities and Arts UGA Franklin Professor of English The Rock House 5:00 p.m. Cocktails 5:30 p.m. Lecture $5.00 per person Reservations begin 1 p.m. November 9

Literature is one of humanity's enduring arts. The desire to describe our place in a world that comes into shape on the page is fundamental to many of the ideas we embrace as the foundation of our daily lives - of family, friendship, place, and time. This presentation will be a conversation about why and how we read books, as well as an introduction to some of Professor Allen's favorite authors. In addition, time will be spent reading poems and prose, as well as discussing interesting authors and their life experiences.

Nicholas Allen is the director of the Willson Center and Franklin Professor of English at the University of Georgia. He has published several books on Ireland and its literature, has been the Burns Visiting Scholar at Boston College, and has received many grants and awards, including from the Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Irish Research Council.
