(Tomato frog pic) Deep in the C osta Rican jungle liv es the small tomato frog. Red in color like a tomato, he has a unique defense against predators. O nce he's attacked, he emits a deadly , milky w hite poison all ov er his skin. A s the attacking animal bites into a tomato frog, it tastes the poison and spits the frog out of its mouth.

U nfortunately , by the time the predator spits out the frog, the traumatized amphibian dies any w ay .

Without question, the tomato frog's poison is effectiv e. The only problem is--it's too late. It's utterly useless in protecting the tomato frog safe because it's activ ated after an attack and after the damage is done.

Believ ers in Jesus often suffer from the tomato frog's bane. We w ait to pray and employ our spiritual defenses or offenses until after S atan has already attacked and caused damage in our liv es. O nly after making a bad decision, breaking a significant relationship, or committing a sin w ith long-term consequences do w e call on the Lord for help. O f course, G od can help us in times of trouble. Yet w e do ourselv es a fav or to be in constant pray er and dev otion so that the enemy is repelled before the damage is done.

III. Who Needs T his Breath of God? a. Y our Need For H is Breath i. E v er had the w ind knocked out of y ou? S cary ! (F all) ii. That's life w hen G od isn't inv olv ed... w e need H im! b. Y our Need To Speak Life i. If y ou know Jesus as y our Lord & S av ior, your life has meaning and purpose... don't y ou think others need purpose too? ii. M ay be you are like me sometimes, or this:

(Startfish pic) There was once a little boy who was walking along the beach and all of a sudden he came upon thousands of starfish that had washed up on the beach. The tide was going out, and for some strange reason, the starfish ended up stuck on the beach. They were all doomed because they couldn't survive being out of the water in the hot sun until the next high tide. The little boy realized this and frantically started picking up starfish and throwing them, one at a time, back into the water. A man who was walking along the beach saw the boy doing this and he yelled at the boy, "Son, what in the world are you doing? Don't you know that there are thousands of starfish on this beach? And don't you know that this beach goes on for miles and miles? There is no way in the world you can save all those starfish!" The little boy thought about that for a moment, then turned to the man, picked up a starfish and said, "Yeah, I know. But I can save this one." And he heaved it as far as he could into the ocean. iv. Think of a situation right now in y our life or in the life of someone y ou know w here things just seem dry .
