Movie Maker Help Card



Farmwell has two computers called “Movie Maker” computers that can be used to download video directly from the DV camera. The DV camera cannot be connected to a networked computer.

Note: skip to page 5 if video is already downloaded from the camera and is available on a network drive, USB key or other device.

Login Information is located at the movie maker computer workstation

You will not login with your regular login and password

Connect the DV Camera

Use the power adaptor to plug the camera into the electrical outlet. Do not run from the battery.

Make sure camera is turned OFF and plug camera into the computer using the USB cable.

Import the Video

Turn the video camera ON and set it to VCR or play mode.

Make sure your videotape is set at the point where you want to start capturing the video.

Open the Movie Maker program on the computer.

Click File, Capture Video

Enter the name of your movie in the box #1

Select Digital device format (DV-AVI)

Click Next

Select Capture Parts of the tape Manually

Click Next

Click Start Capture

When you have captured a section, click Stop Capture

Click Finish to complete the capture

Your Video will show in the Collection window in Movie Maker

Import the Video – use this option if video is already saved on a network drive or other source such as USB key or CD.

Open the Movie Maker program on the computer.

Click on View>> Collections

Right-Click on Collections and select New Collection. Name the new collection with your movie title or group name..

Return to Movie Tasks:

Click View>>Task Pane

Import video clips from memory card:

Make sure the memory card is in the card reader and the card reader is plugged into the USB port in your computer.

Click Import Video

Browse to the card reader drive and select a file to import and click Import.

Rename video clips and put in the correct collections folder:

Click View>>Collections

Right-Click on the clip that just imported and rename it to something descriptive.

Drag and drop the file into the correct collection folder.

Repeat for each clip.

Making a Movie

Move the captured video clips from Collections to the Timeline or Storyboard

Edit the Movie

Change to the Storyboard view.

Split the Film

Click Play button until you get to the spot you want to split and click the pause button.

Click Clip, Split The split video will move over to the next frame on the storyboard.

Add Transitions

Click Tools, Video Transitions

Select a transition by dragging into the storyboard.

Add Credits

Click Tools, Titles and Credits

Add Music (mp3 or wav files)

Change view to Timeline

Import the mp3 or wav file by clicking File, Import into Collections

* To Mute the audio on the video so only the music plays, Click Clip, Audio, Mute

Save Movie Project

Click File, Save Project

Name it the same as your movie.

Burn Completed Move to CD

Get a recordable CD from your teacher

Click File, Save Movie File

Select Recordable CD

Click Next

Enter the Name of the Movie in boxes 1 & 2

Click Next

Select Best fit for recordable CD (recommended)

Click Next

When movie completes the save, click Finish

Right Click and create a new folder for your team

Change view from Timeline to Storyboard

Add transitions here.

1. Right-click and rename clip

2. Drag the file into the correct collection folder.

USB cable gets plugged in here.

Enter Movie Title Here.
