“SUMMER TIME AND THE LIVIN’ IS EASY….”

I hope the words to that old classic song reflect the summer you’ve been having so far. I know for the farmers and growers among us it’s just the opposite. For me, for the first time in about seven years this summer has been “easy”…no July committee meetings, no month away at Wesley Seminary trying to catch up on work that should have been done earlier in the year. It’s almost been a “Sabbath Summer;” time to slow down, look back and say it is good. And because of this much needed and appreciated break I’m looking forward to plans for the next church year which begins shortly. Thankfully, God in his wisdom has provided “little summers” throughout the year. They are called days of Sabbath rest…Sundays for we Christians. A day first of all to worship, praise and give thanks to God for our lives and for Jesus Christ the savior of the world. As you return from vacation, refreshed and ready to go again, with all of the coming activities…back to school, work, sports, meetings, etc. please remember none of these things are possible but for the grace of God. Make time to acknowledge that in Sunday worship and rest.

“On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day he rested from all his work of creation.”

Genesis 2:2,3 (NLT)

If we don’t take time to fill our tanks, we’re going to run out of gas. God demonstrated that rest is appropriate and right. Jesus demonstrated this principle when he and his disciples left in a boat to get away from the crowds. Our times of rest refresh us for times of service. If it’s good enough for God, it ought to be good enough for us.

Blessings,

Pastor Judy

REPORTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS

OLD FASHIONED COUNTRY FESTIVAL

God treated us well!  What a great day July 31, 2010 was for our church.  Our dream came true because of the help of our church members and families who were there to support us in every way.  Whether it was prayer for good weather, or a donation of time or money; everything worked together for a successful day.

The Oldies & Goodies sponsored and financed the festival and worked hard to plan and get it started. We had a lot of wonderful help during the months and days leading up to the event. But on Friday, July 30th, (the day before) the turnout of workers was unbelievable. We needed all the help we could get, and WE GOT IT.  Then on July 31, Festival Day, we had another huge turnout of helpers which made every booth, concession and activity run smoothly. I think this was truly the first step of our church family coming together to get our building remodeled and expanding our ministry.

I am most thankful that our congregation worked together so well.  Secondly, I am grateful that we were able to make a nice profit for the building fund. So many good comments were made about the festival and Tom's Creek UMC that day.

Thanks to all who contributed in any way.

God is good!

Jimmy Hill

Men’s Sunday School Class

Plans for the Men’s Sunday School Class are in the process of being finalized and will be announced in the bulletin in the near future

Wow! 700 dips of Schwan’s Ice Cream served. On Sunday morning the volunteer ice cream servers had stiff hands and sore shoulder muscles, but they had fun.

Last but not least, I do have the Schwan’s people wrapped around my fingers!

Thanks To All That Helped

Virginia Wantz

I would like to thank all that brought their tractors for display. It was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by many. A special thank you also goes to Mr. Larry Airington and The Mason Dixon Historical Society Members for participation with tractors and gas engines.

The winner of "The People's Choice" trophy was Mr. Kevin Cain, Finksburg, Md. with his 1964 Ford 2000 Industrial Tractor.

Hopefully, we will be able to enjoy this event again next year.
