Job Description

QEF is a national charity working with over 4,000 children and adults with physical and learning disabilities and acquired brain injuries. Working with our clients, we support them to fulfill their potential – whether it’s learning everyday life skills, rebuilding a life affected by brain injury or acquiring the skills to drive a specially adapted car.

QEF is an ambitious charity with a clear vision for growth and a strong sense of values. The charity is starting on a significant transformational development plan with services migrating to a campus location in Leatherhead so this is an exciting time to join. We are looking for an experienced marketing and communications professional who can develop and deliver strategies and plans that will manage and enhance QEF’s reputation with a range of different stakeholders.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone looking for a senior management role to make their own. Working across all teams, you will draw together both our work to build an engaging narrative and develop a set of communications tools to raise our profile. You will be highly skilled, have a good reputation and be great at both creating passion and influencing others through your truly excellent communications. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of a new creative and integrated marketing and communications strategy that delivers reach, reputation and revenue in support of the delivery of our new ambitions and vision. You will also be responsible for managing a newly centralised comms team and associated agencies.

We are looking for someone who has at least five years’ experience in marketing and communications and experience of leading strategy and implementing change. We are looking for that something extra – the wow factor that will make our communications come alive. You will share our values and be able to evidence your aptitude for the requirements of the role.

What knowledge and experience should you have?

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing and communications with demonstrable impact and achieving of outcomes.

• Experience delivering and managing the marketing and communications function for an organisation

• Experience of and aptitude for the requirements of the role

• A great reputation evidenced by your previous roles and work

|PURPOSE OF THE JOB |

|Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People (QEF) aims to be a High Performing Organisation. This new role in the Fundraising |

|and Marketing Department is to develop and deliver a new creative, engaging and integrated marketing and comms strategy that will |

|take a QEF wide, modern and innovative approach to internal and external communications and marketing in line with our new vision |

|and 20/21 strategic aims. Central to these aims is ensuring QEF is a modern, vibrant charity that meets the needs of people with |

|disabilities and those who fund our services. Delivering improved, high quality and holistic services to enable people to receive |

|co-ordinated care involving all parts of QEF as well as growing our services across a wider geographical area frame our plans and |

|ambitions and this post is vital to delivering this organisational change. |

|KEY RESPONSIBILITIES |

|Lead the development and delivery of a new integrated marketing and communications strategy, encompassing brand, traditional and |

|digital marketing, media and public relations, social media and internal communications that engages key audiences and raises QEF’s |

|profile. |

|Develop key marketing activities that support the business objectives of the services and lead on internal communication approaches |

|within QEF so that staff feel engaged and involved and QEF’s values and behaviours are embedded in daily life. |

|Build and lead the Communications and Marketing Team ensuring a customer led service is provided to staff, teams and services within|

|QEF. |

|WORKING RELATIONSHIPS |

|Internal: Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Marketing on all matters relating to the main purpose of the job. You will |

|also work closely with the CEO, Trustees particularly the QEF Chair of Trustees and Chair of the Fundraising and Marketing Committee|

|as well as developing contacts with the Heads of Operational Services, members of the Fundraising team and Support functions |

|(Property, Finance and HR). |

|External: Customers, funders, organisations QEF works closely with, agencies, journalists and the media, suppliers, supporters and |

|volunteers. |

|MAIN DUTIES |

|Driving Marketing and Comms across QEF |

|- Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in operational services and fundraising, producing content and marketing |

|collateral and providing support to enable colleagues to achieve organisational objectives. |

|Marketing and Comms |

|-Develop, deliver and implement a creative and integrated marketing and communications strategy that delivers reach, reputation and |

|revenue and raises our profile with key stakeholder groups. |

|- Develop key messaging across services and QEF more widely and use the most effective channels in delivery. |

|- Develop marketing and communications KPI’s that reflect our priorities and ensure we achieve our targets. |

|- Develop, produce and update key messaging resources for trustees and staff, including template presentations. |

| Press and media |

|- With the Press and Media Manager develop a proactive and cohesive QEF wide |

|media strategy that builds and develops ongoing, positive relationships with |

|programme makers, key editors and reporters from disability and health as well |

|as with the regional press and specialist media. |

|- Identify key issues on which QEF can comment with authority and seek to |

|influence and leverage coverage nationally. |

|- With the Press and Media Manager identify and respond to current stories as |

|they break, including dealing with press queries, making statements and briefing |

|key spokespeople when arranging radio/TV interviews. |

|- Wherever possible ensure active service user involvement in all comms and |

|media using practical case study stories. |

|- Work with the Press and Media Manager in handling the media, both proactively |

|and reactively, in crisis situations, providing 24 hour media cover and providing |

|advice and guidance to QEF staff and volunteers on media and PR issues. |

| Brand development |

|- Develop and manage the QEF brand including visual identity, values and |

|behaviours and ensure conformity to brand guidelines. |

|- Develop, produce and review brand identity in the light of the renewed vision and |

|integration of the QEF Group charities. |

|Print and digital |

|- Develop and deliver marketing collateral such as the Annual Report, newsletters, brochures, video and photography, working |

|in-house or with external agencies. |

|- Manage and coordinate design and print needs working with Procurement. |

|- Develop and implement an effective digital programme which will maximise our profile with key audiences. |

|- Develop a consistent, lively and interesting presence on social media, especially Twitter, facebook and LinkedIn, in line with our|

|vision and key messages. Look for opportunities to engage more effectively with our stakeholders through social media. |

|- Support the ongoing development of the QEF website, ensuring it is an effective communication tool for our key stakeholders and |

|kept up to date. |

|Line management |

|- Line manage and support the Press and Media Manager, including monthly review meetings, annual performance reviews and day to day |

|supervision. Our digital function is under review but may include managing an agency, freelancer or a new member of staff. Also |

|under consideration from October ’17 is the move of an individual into the team as Special Relationships and Events Manager. |

|Other |

|- Play a collaborative and active role in the overall development of the Fundraising and Marketing Department. |
